A Swedish man says his children inspired him to cram 81 matches into his nostrils—earning him a Guinness World Records title.
Martin Ströby, 42, told Guinness World Records that his kids were fascinated by the newest edition of the record book and urged him that it would be “so cool” if he set a record himself.
“At first I thought, ‘I’m not good enough at anything to be the best in the world,’” Ströby said. “But after my children showed me all the different records, I started to think there might be one I could actually break. That’s when the search began.”
He eventually settled on the record for most matches held in the nose, which was 68 at the time.
“After a trial run, I realized I could stretch my nostrils quite a bit and tolerate the discomfort, so I guess I’m a natural,” he joked. “But I had to experiment with technique because matches kept falling out—every time I put three in, one or two would drop. After more tests, I finally found a method to keep most of them in place.”
Ströby ultimately achieved the record with 81 matches.
“As a father, I want my children to look up to me the way I look up to my own father, who taught me more than I can put into words,” he said.
