Lidl To Recall Tinned Herring – After Packaging Fails To Say It Contains Fish

Lidl is recalling its own brand tinned herring fillets – because the packaging doesn’t warn shoppers it may contain fish.

The German discount supermarket sells herring in various sauces in 200g tins under the brand Nixe, but despite having a prominent Marine Stewardship Council logo, the discounter said the herring fillets in a tomato sauce have been withdrawn due to fish not being declared in English.

Its herring fillets in a tomato and red and green pepper sauce, herring fillets in a mustard sauce and herring fillets in a tomato and pepper sauce also fail to mention they may contain fish, milk, egg, wheat and mustard.

Chelmsford’s Lidl is situated in Princes Road.

A statement from Lidl said: “If you have bought a product and have an allergy to fish, milk, mustard, egg or wheat do not eat it.

“Instead return it to a Lidl store for a full refund. Other green grocer products are not affected by this recall.”

All affected tins have a best before date of March 16, 2020.
