Man Arrested For Overdue ‘Freddy Got Fingered’ Rental From 2002

A man in North Carolina has been arrested for not returning a VHS copy of the Tom Green movie Freddy Got Fingered. As CNN reports, James Meyers was pulled over in Concord, NC this week for driving with a broken brake light. When the officers checked his records, they found a warrant for Meyers’ arrest, stemming from a video that he rented in 2002 and never returned.

“The guy brings me to the back of the car and he goes, ‘Sir, I don’t know how to tell you this, but there’s a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented a movie, ‘Freddy Got Fingered,’ and you never returned it,'” Meyers said in a video he posted online.

Meyers told local media that he was on his way to drop his daughter off at school at the time of the arrest, and described the officers as polite and courteous. The officers allowed Meyers to continue to his daughter’s school before turning himself in. He now faces a misdemeanor charge of failing to return hired property, and is due in court on April 27th. The store from which Meyers rented the movie, J&J Video, has since closed.

Tom Green, who directed and starred in the 2001 movie, reacted to the story with incredulity. The comedian told Australian media this week that he spoke with Meyers about the arrest, and that they “had a good laugh about it.”
