A man has been jailed after breaking into a former lunatic asylum and stealing jars of brains to sell on Facebook as Halloween decorations.

David Charles, 23, was sentenced to four years in jail after admitting stealing human tissue from the Indiana Medical History Museum.

The young man broke into the museum, which is a former hospital for the insane, on multiple times in September 2013.

A museum worker said possibly 1,000 pieces were stolen as well as the copper piping from the building.

According to a police report, the total value of glass jars containing the human tissue was valued at approximately £3,175.

Charles was arrested in December 2013 after a San Diego man who bought six jars of brain material for £397 on eBay alerted police, according to court documents.
