Sydney fireworks seen by a billion people

More than a billion people witnessed a spectacular fireworks show in Sydney as it became one of the first cities to ring in the new year.

In a world first, the displays were also captured by cameras mounted on drones for broadcast.

The total cost of the celebrations in Sydney, which, along with the Solomon Islands and parts of Russia and New Zealand is one of the first cities to enter 2015, was around $7.2m (£3.8m), with the council saying the broadcast reached a billion people worldwide.
